A Nigerian man has called out Fidelity Bank after his 18 years stock investment with the bank only yielded just N5,332.
The middle-aged man lamented over the discovery in a video posted on X on Monday.
He recounted how Dangote Refinery’s announcement of its Initial Public Offering had prompted him to visit Fidelity Bank to check the profit he has made over the years from the N20,000 worth of shares he purchased with the bank.
To his surprise, the investment only yielded N5332.50 with the value of the shares still retained at N20,000.
‘I brought shares with Fidelity Bank 18 years ago and I’ve not checked how much I’ve made on these shares. So, when I heard that Dangote is selling shares, I decided to go and check how much I have made on these shares.
‘I used N20, 000 to buy these shares 18 years ago. Surprisingly, I went on the 14th of September 2026. What they gave me as the yield of my shares is N5,332.50.
‘For 18 years, this is what Fidelity Bank has given to me. That’s okay. If I want to sell the shares, they said I will sell the shares for N20,000.’ He said in the video.
The further disclosed how he could have used the money to buy a piece of land which, according to him, would have appreciated and valued between N2 million and N5 million by now.
‘My people, in that 18 years ago, there is a place I can buy land of the same amount and of today, the value of that land may be up to N2 million or even N5 million if not more.’ The aggrieved investor said.
He demanded that the bank provide explanation over what his money was used for in the last 18 years.
‘So, what is the essence of buying share. Fidelity Bank, you people must tell me what you used my money to do because you people have been doing business.
‘For 18 years, what you have been able to give me is N5,000. The worse is that I entered ride of almost N11,000 to go and check how much I’ve made for 18 years. Una go tell me wetin una take my money do.’ He said.
