A yet-to-be identified man has called out the University of Benin’s (UNIBEN) Faculty of Engineering lecturers over inability to repair the faculty’s generator after developing fault.
Decrying the lack productivity across Nigerian tertiary institutions in a now viral video shared on X on Tuesday, the man recounted how engineering professors were unable to fix the faculty generator.
He also questioned the inability of UNIBEN’s agriculture faculty to proffer solution to food crisis despite having the largest number of students in the campus.
“We have a lot of universities and polytechnics yet, one we are not producing anything. This faculty of engineering, they are not producing anything.
“I was in this faculty sometimes ago when the faculty generator had issues. None of the Professors of mechanical engineering, petroleum, none of them could fix it.
“Why is it a faculty of engineering if just a diesel power plant has fault and could not be fixed. You can see that it is very ineffective.
“UNIBEN has about 77,000 students of which a good number of them dey faculty of agric. Yet, food is expensive, even inside school especially. Why? Because they are not manufacturing food.” the man said.
While expressing concern over dearth of practical in Nigerian institutions, the man called for the enrolment of primary and secondary school students into vocational training after school hours as he maintained that productivity is what builds a nation and not theories.
“If I’m the President of this country, I will be very much concerned about practicalities of institutions of learning.
“All schools will be close by 12pm, I’m talking about primary and secondary schools now. Once they close, they should go and learn work. Go to school from 7 to 12, close by 12 and go and do something with your hands.
“Theories, good grades do not build a country. It is productivity that builds a country.
“It is when you start producing that you can now start to make research to back up and make better what you are producing. We are not manufacturing anything, so there is no need for research centres.
“We are not solving our problems yet so, what are we researching on?” He asked.
