An Ibadan-based man, simply identified as Ololade Great, has on Saturday challenged police officers over alleged harassment and unlawful detention.
Ololade, a vulcanizer at Ikolaba area of the Oyo State capital city, had in a now viral video accused the officers attached to the Ikolaba Police station of wrongfully accusing him of theft, leading to his unlawful detention and physical assault while in custody.
As captured in the video shared on TikTok, the visibly enraged man claimed the officers had detained and assaulted him in order to take over his workshop.
Ololade, who spoke in Yoruba, recounted how the officers forced him to evacuate from his initial spot beside the Governor’s office, leading to his relocation to the new spot where he is being threatened and intimidated again by the officers before his arrest.
“You sent me away from there (Governor’s office) to this place. If I had done something wrong over there, I wouldn’t be allowed to be here.
“What do you want from me? Is it until when I cut my head for you? Why are you threatening me?
“Where I was before, you accused me of being responsible for the robbery attacks there that the robbers are my boys. You used your power to send me away from there. If had I been a bad person as you alleged, I wouldn’t be given another space here.
“You failed to make proper investigation before wrongfully accusing me of theft. A lot of people have become insane because of your power abuse.
“You locked me up for two days claiming that I am a thief under cover of a vulcanizer.” He said.
In a separate video posted on his X handle, Ololade further disclosed how the officers intimidating him before his arrest and detention in order to allegedly take over his work space.
He recounted his past ordeals with police at his previous work shops with the current shop being his eight work shop since he started working.
“Police have overtime being responsible for my evacuation from my previous workshops. They either lie against me or accuse me of an offense I didn’t commit especially whenever they feel unsatisfied with what I give them. The work shop where I made that video will be my eight work shop since I left Lagos for Ibadan.” He said.
NPO Reports reached out to the Oyo State Police Command for confirmation of the incident.
The Command’s spokesperson is however yet to respond to our correspondent as at the time of filing this report.
