English Premier League giant, Manchester City, has on Saturday suffered a shocking home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at match day two of the 2025/2026 season.
City, who seemed to have yanked off their nightmarish performance last season with an emphatic 4-0 away win against Wolves at the Premier League opener, were shadow of their old self against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
The Pep Guardiola-led side saw a goalkeeping blunder goalkeeper , James Trafford, gifted Tottenham’s Joao Palhinha a goal.
Brennan Johnson would double the visitors lead before halftime.
While both sides had squandered chances in the first few minutes of play, Johnson broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, latching onto a pass from Richarlison and finishing with a shot into the top corner.
The goal was initially flagged for offside but that decision was overturned by VAR.
Palhinha would double the visitors’ lead in first-half stoppage time when new signing Trafford inexplicably tried to play out from the back, and Richarlison pounced, rolling the ball to Palhinha whose deflected shot found the back of the net.
The win saw Spurs record three victories out of their last five games at the Etihad while maintaining their unbeaten start under manager Thomas Frank following an opening 3-0 win over Burnley.
