Sikiru Olaboye, a member of the gang who orchestrated the failed assassination plot against Rauf Aregbesola has met with the former Osun state governor to plead for mercy.
This is coming weeks after Sikiru had openly confessed on a live radio program to be part of the group who carried out the assassination plot during the 2006 Oroki day celebration in Osogbo.
NPO reported that the man had pleaded for Aregbesola’s mercy as he narrated the tragic ordeal that befell other members of the gang.
The ex-Osun governor, in a post on his official X handle on Sunday, confirmed Sikiru’s visit to his residence.
Aregbesola stated that he holds no grudges against him as he prayed for him.
He, however, admitted that only God has the power to forgive.
“Earlier today, I received Sikiru Olaboye, one of the men who attempted to assassinate me during the 2006 Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo.
“I was informed that he called into a local radio station in Osogbo a few weeks ago to seek my forgiveness.
“Today, while praying for him, I assured him that I hold no grudges against him or anyone else involved. I neither harboured resentment nor sought revenge after God spared me from that attack.
“It is God alone who has the power to forgive all our shortcomings. As His servants, I pray that He forgives both his and mine, Aameen!”
