About ten persons mostly traders and shop owners escaped death on Wednesday after a private vehicle rammed into traders and shop owners at the Iju area of Lagos.
Eye witness accounts said the driver of a Ford SUV, a woman, who was driving on a rough short link road to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, off Iju Road had suddenly increased speed to the amazement of many traders by the road side.
Among traders on the road side were a gas filling shop, a betting shop and a fruit seller kiosk.
Accounts said no one could explain what led to the sudden high speed of the car on a road as rough as that.
“We suddenly just noticed the high speed and all of us just took off. Before we knew it, the vehicle had rammed into all the objects along its way until it halted after hitting a pillar,” one of those who witnessed the incident told the NPO Reports.
While many gathered to assess the situation, one of the traders who survived the accident was seen to be convulsing.
Sympathisers hurriedly put her on a motorbike and ferried her to a nearby hospital.
The woman driver, who was seen dejected appeared confused after seeing what had happened. One of the tyres in the front wheels of the vehicle got yanked off as the vehicle pulled to a stop.
