Nigerian afrobeats musician, Seun Kuti, has come under fire following his attack on Aisha Yesufu’s hijab.
The son of late legendary singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, had thrown a jibe at Aisha, telling the activist to liberate herself from her Hijab first before liberating Nigerian women.
This would not go down well for the singer as netizens condemned his remark on X.
Reacting, Asiya Rodrigo accused Seun of being narrow-minded as she harped on women’s liberty to dress as they desire.
“Seun should liberate himself from his narrow mind that Aisha has to dress in only what he would like to see her wear. She chooses what she wants and is proud of her choices. Men who like to control women’s choices (either to wear or not to wear something) can go cry themselves a river.” Asiya wrote.
Another X handler, Dr Issy, faulted the musician over what he called ‘insensitive’ remark.
“In my knowledge and research,as much as I do agree with some of $eun point of view , he is totally wrong and very insensitive about this one . Make your point without attacking her h!jab. If he feels one needs liberation for covering her body , then what do people who walk half naked need.” He wrote.
Similarly another X handler, simply identified as Zyn, said Seun crossed the line with his attack on Aisha’s dressing.
“I’m not a fan of Aisha—she’s too loud and annoying, and most of her posts are pretty cringe-worthy. But. But, Seun has clearly crossed the line here.
“He has no business attacking her or any other woman over her dressing, especially when it comes to her hijab.” She wrote.
Below are some other notable reactions from netizens.
