Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda is set to resign as ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, meets with lawmakers outside the chamber.
This is coming days after Obasa’s takeover of the Assembly which preceded the presence of the lawmakers at the Lagos High Court last week over the impeachment of the Speaker.
As at the time of filing this report, the lawmakers have commenced the plenary session following the brief meeting which had in attendance leaders of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, including Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, as well as the state Attorney General, Lawal Pedro (SAN).
In what appears to be her last sitting as the Speaker before Obasa’s reinstatement, Meranda observed the lawmakers who took turn in commending her leadership.
The House majority leader, in his remark, lauded Meranda for restoring peace and unity within the 49 days of her tenure.
“In 49 days, you have given peace that was lost in this House. The spirit of friendship, loyalty, and sense of belonging has been restored in this House
“You gave us strength. We see you as our mother and our sister.
“We have shown the world we are legislators with character and if Asiwaju Tinubu is to be here today, he would have done what we did.” He said.
“This is not the last phase in life, this is not the last time, and this is not what God has for you. You are destined to be great.” he said.
Prior to Lawal’s remark, Hon. Desmond Elliot was observed by Meranda to speak.
Emotions, however, got the best of the former Nollywood actor representing Surulere Constituency 1, as he broke down in tears.
