*Says Governor Shares Same Ideology With Late MKO
AbdulMumini Abiola, the youngest son of the late businessman and winner of the 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Olawale Abiola, has expressed support for her sister in her new role as the Director General of the presidential campaign organization for the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking with the NPO Reports in an exclusive interview, Mr. Abiola said he is in solidarity with his sister, Hafsat Abiola.
Mrs. Hafsat Abiola-Costello was last week unveiled as the Director-General of the campaign at the public declaration for the 2023 presidential election by the governor.
He described the governor as “a man who knows his own shadow” while also recalling his warm encounter with the governor which he described as impressed
Mr. Abiola described the Kogi State Governor as a public officer who has not been sucked in by the arrogance of power.
He commended the efforts of Yahaya Bello putting women in positions of leadership.
“This shows someone who saw the problem in a state and realized that the way to solve them is through new thinking, a different approach and he chose to use the youths to drive his agenda. This is the answer to the Nigerian issue,” Mr. Abiola said told the NPO Reports
Abdulmumin noted that Yahaya Bello is qualified enough as a Nigerian citizen to contest as far as he is concerned. He also encouraged other young Nigerians who are capable to come out.
He said, “Other young people who feel like they have the capacity should please show themselves. It is time for us to be the future leaders that we are.
“We cannot afford to make mistakes in the coming elections because for 30 years, we have been trying the same thing and this same thing has proved not to work over time before it is too late.”
He said to strengthen democracy, Nigerians have to bring in people who were part of the struggles for democracy.
He claimed that from the meeting his sister had with the governor, his mission, which is to incorporate the manifesto to fit the purpose of Nigeria, was made clear.
“It would be of an advantage for him to include those who had played a major part in democracy.
“My father’s strategy remains one of the strategies that should be employed”, he affirmed.
He added that his sister has insisted that no matter the platform, it should be Nigeria first and her ideas are on the basis of how to move Nigeria forward.
He said, “There is no way my sister will be in government and things will not be going in a way my father will not be pleased with and she will not voice out.
“We need a leader that is selfless and if we miss those steps today, then we can say bye-bye to Nigeria,” he warned.
AbdulMumin added that he now holds Governor Yahaya Bello in higher esteem pointing out that he is encouraged by the fact that the Governor is also a young man.
He wondered what was wrong in Hafsat comparing her father with Governor Yahaya Bello; saying the governor has similar ideological belief that the late Abiola had about Nigeria.
