Global System of Mobile communication company MTN has said a system error has been responsible for the message’s subscribers have received purportedly cancelling their borrowed airtime.
Many subscribers had expressed joy on Saturday after they got messages indicating their debts had been cancelled.
The balance inquiries of many had shown those who had pending debts to repay reflecting that they had no loans to repay.
However in a statement made available to the NPO Reports , MTN said once the system errors are rectified, normal repayment would be effected and all accounts reconciled.
“Hello.
“MTN Nigeria Communications Plc can confirm a system glitch impacting balance enquiries. As a result, some customers may receive error messages showing that their balances have been cleared.
“This is not the case and all balances will reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved. Our engineers are currently working to ensure this.
“Please accept our apologies. We regret the inconvenience.”
