The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has allegedly being removed by President Bola Tinubu with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, Tunji Disu, appointed as his replacement.
This was disclosed by multiple sources within the Nigeria Police Force as well as posts shared on X on Tuesday.
According to reports, senior police officials and sources within the Police Service Commission revealed that Tinubu had yesterday directed Egbetokun to prepare his handover notes.
“Egbetokun was at the (Presidential) Villa yesterday and was told to go and prepare his handover notes. I believe he has done that already and he will be handing over to Tunji Disu,” one of the sources said.
It was gathered that the President has approved the appointment of Disu as the new boss of the Nigerian Police Force.

Though no official confirmation has been made by the presidency or the Police Service Commission, multiple sources claim on Tuesday that Disu, a one-time Commissioner of Police in Rivers State will take over from Egbetokun.
Egbetokun has been due for retirement since 2024.
The Police Chief, who hails from Ogun State, was appointed by President Tinubu as the 22nd IGP on 19 June 2023.
His substantive appointment was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on 31 October that year.
Appointed as IGP at the age of 58, Mr Egbetokun was due for retirement on 4 September 2024, upon reaching the mandatory age of 60.
