Sequel to report of man who plunged to death in Lagos Canal after being allegedly chased by Police officers, his wife has claimed he was chased to death after being accused of being a fraudster and threatened to be shot.
As seen in a post on Instagram, the wife of the deceased recalled how her husband, identified as Oyetade Bidemi, had left home for Oshodi on Wednesday.
She claimed police officers had stopped him on his way, accusing him of being a yahoo boy and threatened to shoot him.
“His name is Oyetade Temitope Bidemi and I am his wife so on 16th of October, he told me around 10am that he is going to oshodi and he left home for oshodi, and after like 50minutes which is 10:30am.
“I got a call from someone that he had an accident so fortunately before I got there they helped me to take him to the hospital where he was receiving first aid and according to the eye witness they said the police officers were on mufty and when they stopped the bike he was on, he came down and they started accusing him of being a yahoo boy because of his tattoos and they said he kept on telling them he is not a yahoo boy so they wanted to shoot him that is why he started running and till he fell into the canal and his body was brought out by the eye witness.
“The policemen took his slippers and money. I’m available to provide further information you need Sir. Thank you” the wife narrated.
Meanwhile, NPO had reported Lagos State Police Command’s denial of the claim that its officers chased Oyetade to his death.
The Command claimed the deceased had plunged to the canal after sighting the officers who made no attempt to pursue him.
