Lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has again faulted her suspension, citing gross irregularities and injustice in the entire procedure.
Natasha stated this on Tuesday while addressing her constituents at her hometown in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of the state.
Following her much anticipated arrival which saw the state government imposed ban on rally and public gathering amongst others, the suspended lawmaker told her supporters that her suspension is against the Nigerian constitution.
She accused the Senate of violating the constitution while stressing that signatures used for her suspension were all attendance sheets and not signatures attached to suspension reports.
“When a person is elected or appointed to a leadership position, that does not mean that they are absolutely right in every decision making.
“I was suspended for six months which is against the constitution. Nigerian constitution does not allow the suspension of elected officers.
“But again the Senate says it is guided by its rules. But what does the Senate rule provider for suspension.
“Here you have those in authority violating the Constitution and playing God through abuse of power.
“Not only is it illegal, because the signatures used for my suspension were all attendance sheets; they were not signatures attached to suspension reports.
“That suspension itself is saddled with lots of irregularities. They themselves, the entire team that sat on it and Senate President- he was a judge in his own. course.
“All the entire procedure amounts to what we call gross irregularities, gross injustice.
“And I know that in the fullness of time, God is going to turn around that foundation. Lie may tarry but for a while
Truth will always prevail.” Natasha said.
Recall that the embattled lawmaker bagged the six months suspension after being found guilty of gross misconduct over her clash with the Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary sitting in February.
In contrast to the Senate’s account for her suspension, Natasha had ever since claimed she was suspended due to her sexual harrasment petition against Akpabio.
