The Nigeria Police Force has claimed that the reported N100 million transferred to the personal account of Victor Egbetokun, son of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, was made in error.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, made this known while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme on Monday evening.
The clarification followed an online report as well as claim by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, that Victor received the funds from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account.
Addressing the claim, Hundeyin disclosed reaching out to Victor to confirm the erroneous transfer.
The Police spokesperson said the the ex-IGP’s son immediately reversed the transfer with a printed copy of his statement of account confirming the reversal.
“You could remember when he (Omoyele Sowore) said N100 million was paid into the account of the son of the IGP. I called the son of the IGP immediately to know what was going on, and he explained,” Hundeyin said.
“He said he saw N100 million in his account, and he told his accounts officer to reverse the money immediately, which he did.” Hundeyin said.
Couole with the printed statemwnt of account, a petition has, according to Hundeyin, been written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the investigation of the allegation.
“He printed out his statement of account. He showed me. The young man was forced to close down that account. He has written a petition to the EFCC for that allegation to be investigated.” He added.
