Nababa Commends Officers Who Foiled Osun Jailbreak
The Controller General, Nigerian Correctional Service Haliru Nababa, has commended the gallantry of the officers and men of Ile-Ife Custodial Centre for foiling the attempted jailbreak in the centre.
This is contained in a statement by the Service’s Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Mr Francis Enobore on Monday Abuja.
Four inmates reportedly died at the Custodial Centre, Kosere Area, Ile-Ife, during an attempted jailbreak on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
Nababa, the statement quotes, gave this commendation in the wake of the attack on Tuesday of some officers by some inmates at the centre who mobilised others in a bid to facilitate a jailbreak and escape from lawful custody.
He expressed satisfaction, the manner in which the attempted jailbreak was promptly contained, thus preventing what would have resulted in the escape of harden criminals to further complicate the security situation in the society.
The Controller General charged the officers of the command to ensure that peace is not compromised in all custodial centres in the state.
Nababa also ordered detailed investigation to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the disturbance.
The corrections boss further thanked the officers and men of sister security agencies for their prompt response to give backup to the personnel on guard duty.
He expressed his condolences to the families of those that lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.
Nababa said that the NCoS remained the last organ of government in the line of justice administration in Nigeria.
“Therefore, it is determined to resist any attempt, whether internally generated or externally motivated to compromise the sanctity of custodial centres in the Country
“And this will be carried out with maximum force where necessary.
“The public is assured of the continuous care and support for the reformation and general welfare of inmates which is a core mandate of the Service,” he said
