The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has, on Saturday, destroyed N100 billion worth of expired and illicit drugs seized at the Idumota Open Drug Market in Lagos.
NAFDAC, in a post on its official X handle today disclosed that the contraband medicines, which were confiscated during the recent three-week enforcement operation, were burnt at the Lapite Dumpsite, Moniya, Ibadan.
As captured in series of videos attached to the post, the truckload of illicit medicines were emptied and set ablaze under the supervision of NAFDAC officials.
The agency, however, confirmed the arrest of some suspected peddlers of the illicit drugs and vowed to ensure they face appropriate sanctions.
“Yesterday, NAFDAC destroyed expired, falsified, controlled, unregistered, and banned medicines seized from the Idumota Open Drug Market during a recent three-week enforcement operation.
“The destruction took place at the Lapite Dumpsite in Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State, with the confiscated products valued at an estimated ₦100 billion.
“Several suspects were apprehended during the exercise, and those found culpable will face appropriate sanctions.” The post read.
