In said effort to tackle the distribution of counterfeit medicines, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has, on Wednesday, paid a visit to Idumota drug market in Lagos.
As disclosed in a post on the agency’s official X handle, the NAFDAC boss had led her officials to market in what was described as a screening operation.
Addressing journalists and traders, Adeyeye stated that the goal of the operation is to ensure that medicines sold in the market are effective and not counterfeit.
“The goal of this operation is to guarantee that medicines work as intended. When a child is given medicine, they should not die because the medicine contains nothing of value.” she said.
NPO reported that the NAFDAC DG had called for the extension of the poposed death sentence for drug traffickers to fake drug peddlers.
Adeyeye made the call during an interview last week as she decried the spread of counterfeit drugs in the country.
