The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided two warehouses stocked with expired drugs in Aba, Abia State.
Located at No. 269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road), Aba, the warehouses were filled with different types of expired drugs with some already relabelled.
This was disclosed in a post shared by the NAFDAC on its official X handle on Sunday by.
As seen in series of videos attached to the post, the agency’s operatives in collaboration with security agencies burst the warehouses, discovering cartons of relabelled expired products.
“Two warehouses at No. 269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road), Aba, stocked with expired drugs, have been uncovered.
“During the raid, it was discovered that suspects had removed some cartons of expired but relabelled drugs before security reinforcements arrived.” NAFDAC wrote.
The agency also disclosed the recovery of 140 tonnes of expired drugs were at warehouses located at Umumeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma LGA.
This, according to NAFDAC, exclude products seized from drug shops at Ariaria International Market.
The agency said that a total of 178 drug samples collected during the operation will undergo laboratory analysis.
Recall that the NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, had decried the spread of fake and expired drugs.
She had demanded the extension of death penalty for the illegal drug peddlers.
