The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resigned from his position amid internal crisis within the commission.
This was disclosed in a post shared on X on Monday.
Usman’s resignation is coming days after a formal letter by the NAHCON Board was presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in January.
According to the post, the board had in the letter passed a vote of no confidence in the Chairman and unanimously recommended his removal.
It warned that the continued leadership of Usman posed a serious risk to the successful planning and execution of the 2026 Hajj operations, cautioning that the Commission faced a potential operational collapse if urgent action was not taken.
This further highlighted alleged leadership failures, administrative challenges, and breakdown of trust within the Commission, which the board said had stalled critical preparations for future Hajj exercises.
Meanwhile, Usman’s resignation is yet to be confirmed by the Presidency.
