Nigerian lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sen. Sunday Karimi, has confessed being part of those who implicated Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in the ongoing sexual harrasment scandal with suspended Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
NPO reported that Natasha had in an interview on Arise TV last month accused Akpabio of making sexual advances towards her.
She claimed that her rejection of the Senate President’s advances marked the beginning of her troubles in the Senate.
The embattled Kogi lawmaker made the allegation few days after her confrontation with Akpabio over seat arrangement.
Following her suspension on Thursday by the Senate over her misconduct, her fellow Kogi lawmaker, Senator Karimi confessed being part of those responsible for the fracas involving the Senate President.
Making his confession before the Senate at the plenary yesterday, Karimi recalled how he had lobbied and mounted pressure on Akpabio to give Natasha a leadership position and also place her on a seat row ahead of other Senators following her arrival at the Red Chamber.
“Mr. President, I want to confess my sin today because this is holy month of Ramadan and at the same time, time of fasting.
“I’m one of those that put you in this problem and I’m very sorry. When my sister came to the Senate, you were very reluctant giving her a leadership position. I want to recall your word. You said she is a rocky and there a people that came before her.
“Karimi, why would I give her a leadership position. You said you wouldn’t do that, that you conscience would not allow you to do that.
“I went to some leaders here to put pressure on you. Then finally me and Senator Jubril came to you that the position that Senator Ohere left is for Kogi State and that you must give it back to Kogi state.
“I even went to hold meeting with the husband to strategize on how she will be given that Chairmanship of local content. And finally, you succumb. I’m very sorry Sir.
“When we gave seats here, the seat I allocated to her was where Senator Orwell was sitting. It caused problem here.
“Senators said she was the last person that came so why should she sit in front of them. You had to lead the leaders here and corrected me.
” You led the leadership after sitting one day that Karimi what are you doing? You want to defile this place because you want to favour your sister? That is not right.
“You had to reallocate the seat. When you even reallocated the seat, I still put her somewhere there. Why? Just to at least make my sister comfortable here.” Karimi said.
The Kogi lawmaker further recalled the day of the clash between Natasha and the Senate President.
He recounted how he was dragged by Natasha who he alleged to also abuse his mother.
“Senate President, I want to recall what happened that day before the leadership came in.
“She was very unhappy. She shouted my name to the heavens, abused me, abused my mother. For what?” He asked.
Meanwhile, Senator Karimi revealed his private chat with Natasha following the incident.
“I did a private chat to her and I want to read it for this purpose.
“Madam, why not take a path of peace? Apologize to the leadership and your colleagues and move on.
“The one that seemed your enemy today, can still be your friend tomorrow. It is not even healthy to keep warring always my sincere advice. I hope you are not offended. If at all you need my support in carrying out my suggestion, you can have my back.
“The Spirit of God is leading me to this. Please note that I’ve not disclosed this to anyone. Do not interprete this to be anyone sending me to you.
“You husband is our friend and we enjoyed valued relationship with and I owe him a lot to have decided on this. God guide you right.
He who fights and run away, will leave to fight another day. Those advising you to keep fighting, most of them doesn’t know what it takes to win an election to the Senate. You know your labour, the pain, the struggle to get to where you are.
“You need a good relationship with your colleagues to get the best for your people
“A little here, a little there; bending to people’s opinions, a good politician will do all things possible to move on.
