The Nigerian Bar Association has reacted to the killing of a female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem by a police officer.
Bolanle was killed yesterday while trying to make a U-turn under Ajah Bridge, Lagos.
NPO Reports gathered that Raheem and her children were in their car coming from an eatery in the Ajah area of Lekki when the policeman fired a shot while the woman made for a turn under the Ajah bridge.
Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, police spokesman in Lagos Command said, “Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.”
Hundeyin further said that the Commissioner of Police in the state has been in touch with the family of the deceased saying that justice must prevail over the matter.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has been in touch with the family and the Nigerian Bar Association since yesterday and has given firm assurances that justice will definitely prevail.”
Reacting, the National Publicity Secretary, NBA, Akorede Habeeb Lawal, described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the president of the association, Yakubu Maikyau, was monitoring the situation.
“We are aware of this unfortunate incident. This is yet another crime against a lawyer.
“Regrettably, our member is gone. The NBA President @YCMaikyauSAN is right on this and we shall ensure that justice is duly served,” Lawal tweeted
