The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested a commercial driver and one other suspect over discovered parcels of methamphetamine and colorado, as strain of synthetic marijuana, concealed in a bottle of Fearless Energy Drink.
The driver reportedly received the illicit drugs as a waybill package in Lagos and was to deliver it in Ondo state.
He was however intercepted and arrested by NDLEA officials with the consignment recovered.
This was made known in a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
According to Babafemi, the driver was detained in the NDLEA’s custody following confirmation of the energy drink’s content as seen in a video attached to the statement.
‘When they say don’t judge a book by its cover, it’s for a reason.
‘A commercial bus driver spent some time in custody and would have ended in jail because he assumed a bottle of fearless energy drink given him as a waybill package in Lagos to deliver in Ondo state actually contains energy drink.
‘However, as this video reveals, the energy drink bottle was used to conceal Colos and Meth.’ He wrote.
Babafemi further disclosed the arrest of the package sender, prompting the release of the driver.
The NDLEA spokesperson however warned commercial bus drivers to avoid taking parcels without knowing their content.
‘He may be lucky to have escaped gaol because @ndlea_nigeria officers who made the discovery were able to track and arrest the person who gave him the package, your own case may be devoid of such luck and you go in for it.
‘As drivers or whoever, please avoid taking parcels you don’t know its content because possession makes you culpable, that’s the law and you go explain tire!’ He added.
