The United States President-elect, Joe Biden has declared that the news of the second COVID-19 vaccine by Moderna is "further reason to feel hopeful."
Biden declared this on Monday through his verified Twitter page.
Early data from the US company, Moderna, showed that the second vaccine protects against COVID-19 at nearly 95% rate of effectiveness. The results follow the similar results from Pfizer, adding to growing confidence that vaccines can help end the pandemic.
Biden while hopeful about the development said the US is still months away from recovering from the pandemic after hitting more than 11 million cases and recording over 246,000 deaths.
He advised the US citizens to observe all COVID-19 protocols while thanking the health workers and experts working on vaccines.
Biden tweeted: "Today's news of a second vaccine is further reason to feel hopeful.
"What was true with the first vaccine remains true with the second: we are still months away.
"Until then, Americans need to continue to practice social-distancing and mask-wearing to get the virus under control.
"Once again, I congratulate the brilliant women and men who produced this breakthrough and have brought us one step closer to beating this virus.
"I am also thankful for the frontline workers who are still confronting the virus around the clock."
