The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has marked the 13th remembrance of late Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini.
As contained in a post shared on the Federation’s X handle, Yekini, passed away on the 4th of May, 2012 at the age of 49.
The 1994 African Cup of Nations winner was renowned for scoring Nigeria’s first-ever goal in a FIFA World Cup match.
Described as king of goals, Yekini scored a total of 37 goals for Nigeria, making him the all-time leading goal scorer for the national team.
His stellar performance also earned him the 1993 African Player of the Year award.
“OTD in 2012, @NGSuperEagles Legend, Rashidi Yekini passed on to glory. Rest on King of Goals” the NFF had posted.
However, the cause of Yekini’s death had since remain unclear with his daughters still hoping unravel the circumstances that surrounded his death.
It was however reported that his family members allegedly abducted him few days before his death, claiming he was mentally unstable, and carted away his property.
