The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has mourned the passing of former Green Eagles winger, Henry Nwosu.
NPO earlier Reported the announcement of the death of the ace winger by his former teammate, Segun Odegbami.
According to Odegbami, the legendary footballer passed away in the early hours of Saturday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
Odegbami said Nwosu died after days battling with his health at the Lagos health facility.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on its official X handle, the NFF expressed sadness over the Nwosu’s passing.
According to the NFF, the former national team player died at the age of 62.
“We are sad to announce the passing away of Nigeria legend and 1980 AFCON winner Henry Nwosu.
“He passed away on Saturday after a brief illness at 62 years old. May his soul rest in peace.” The statement read.
Also mourning the demise of Nwosu, the Super Eagles national team in a tribute posted on its X handle commiserated with the family of the 1980 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner.
“We commiserate with the family of Henry Nwosu on his passing.
“A member of Nigeria’s historic squad that won the 1980 African Cup of Nations. Rest in peace.” The Super Eagles wrote.
The news of Nwosu’s death comes days after the death of one of the most celebrated Nigerian coaches Festus Adegboye Onigbinde. Onigbinde died at the age of 88.
