The Nigerian Guild of Editors on Thursday officially responded to the N5m fine slammed on the Trust TV by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission over its airing of the BBC documentary titled The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara.
Mustapha Isa, President of the Guild, in his opening address at the two day workshop “Journalism and Digitalisation: The Imperatives of Good Corporate Governance, said Nigerian editors stand with Trust TV and others that have been fined.
The NGE President said, “The truth of the matter is this, let me tell this to the government, they should stop threatening the media. Take note about our history. Some of us practised journalism under the Abacha regime. Some of us worked with The News, TELL, others, Newswatch. We survived those Abacha days, we will survive this one. Nobody can intimidate us really”.
