A Nigerian Governor Mohammed Umaru Baggo had banned sale of food items produced in the state to other parts of the country.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Baggo, in a video seen by the NPO Reports, said security agencies have been instructed to stop any truck that comes into the state to transport food items to other states.
The governor said, “Trucks who come to pack or buy foodstuffs from our villagers in bulk should be halted for now. We have stopped mass purchases from our local markets, and all our local governments, from now henceforth.”
The video was said to have been recorded during a press briefing held by Bago.
The governor stressed that the sale of food items in bulk has resulted in scarcity and food starvation within the state.
“Anybody found doing that, we have given some security agencies go ahead to confiscate those trucks and share the food with the people.” He added
Baggo’s latest directive came amidst worsening economic situation in the country.
Some protesters had taken to the streets last week in Minna, the state capital protesting against the high costs of food items in the state.
