Emmanuel Osodeke has secured another two years term as the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Osodeke and other officers were re-elected during their 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU which was hosted by the University of Jos, Plateau State between May 19 and 21, 2023.
The union members also re-elected Chris Piwuna, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine, University of Jos, as Vice President.
Other National Officers re-elected during the conference include Prof. Siji Sowande (Treasurer); Prof. Ade Adejumo (Financial Secretary); Dr Austen Sado (Investment Secretary); Dr Adamu Babayo (Internal Auditor) and Dr Aisha Bawa who replaced Dr Stella-Maris Okey as the Welfare Secretary.
Aisha Bawa was also elected to replace Stella-Maris Okey as the welfare secretary of the union.
Osodeke was first elected president of the union in May 2021 during ASUU’s national delegates conference held in Awka, Anambra State.
He is a lecturer at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia state. The election came as the union called on the government to ensure that primary and secondary educations dont go into extinction in Nigeria. The Vice Chancellor of the host UNIJOS, Prof Tanko Ishaya, said the state of the public schools are deplorable.
