Nigerian Writer, Molara Woods Tackles Beyonce Over “Mama Africa” Claims

Nigerian writer and journalist, Molara Wood has tackled the claims that sensational musician, Beyonce, is the mother of Africa, Mama Africa.

A social media user on Twitter, Thandie @_YourGirl_T had tweeted with a picture of Beyonce, "can we normalizing calling Beyonce "Mama Africa" Black Is King."

Reacting, Wood said Beyonce does not qualify to hold the Mama Africa title.

She explained that Beyonce is often strangely silent on Black/African issues and has not travelled to any significant part of Africa.

She wrote, "Mama Africa" that does not live in Africa, that has never travelled to any significant extent around Africa, that is often strangely silent on Black/African issues, that does not appear to live the Yoruba spirituality she mines for megaprofit. Ọsun forbids it. Ọlọrun ma jẹ."

Molara Wood is a Nigerian creative writer, journalist and critic, who has been described as "one of the eminent voices in the Arts in Nigeria".
