More Nigerians have expressed outrage over Thursday’s killing of a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto over allegation of blasphemy.
Deborah Emmanuel was stoned to death and her remains set ablaze by fellow students who accused of making a social media post that denigrated the Prophet of Islam.
Prominent Nigerians have expressed concerns and called for arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing.
Videos of the incident have shown the faces of those who claimed to have killed and set her on fire.
One of those in the video particularly confessed to setting her on fire showing a box of matches with which he carried out the act.
A former senator in Kaduna state, Shehu Sanni, said the act is unconscionable.
He said, “The murder of Deborah, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto is unconscionable and unreservedly & unambiguously condemned. Allegations against the deceased supposed to be investigated by Sokoto security agencies and follow due process of law.”
Also a presidential aspirant, Kingsley Moghalu, called for the prosecution of the perpetrators.
He said, “The killing of Deborah Yakubu by some fellow students at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto on grounds of alleged religious blasphemy is wrong. The culprits should be prosecuted.”
Activist, Aisha Yesufu, while commenting, said there must be proper investigations to bring the killers to justice.
“Not just arrest! Proper investigation and prosecution; police should meticulously collect evidence and not bungle the case up in court. The killers of Bridget were arrested and later released.”
