Nigerians are raising questions after the Chief of Army Staff, Leo Irabor announced the name of a serving inmate in the Kuje Medium Correctional Centre Abuja, as one of those who carried out the June 5 attacks in Owo.
Some gunmen had attacked the St-Francis Catholic Church, Owo where more than 40 worshippers were killed.
The army on Tuesday said five of those who carried out the deadly attacks had been arrested while the man who housed them before they carried out the attacks was also picked up.
Irabor had listed those arrested as Momoh Ojo Abubakar, Aliyu Yussu Itopka, Auwal Isaq Onimisi, Idris Ojo and Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza.
The naming of Idris Ojo had raised questions as the suspect was in Kuje prison as at the time the Owo attacks took place on Sunday June 5, 2022.
The Kuje prison break later took place on July 5, exactly a month after the Owo attacks.
Nigerians have asked how a man who was supposedly in prison.
Adenike Danjuma, with the handle @Deniike wrote, “The Nigerian Army came out to list the names of the alleged attackers that claimed the lives of 40 in Owo, and amongst them is Idris Ojo who they said escaped from Kuje prison.. didn’t Kuje prison break happen after the Owo killings?”
Another twitter user, with the handle @ScentifiedInc1 raised the question, “Abeg make someone explain this to me. Oga Irabor said Idris Ojo was a Kuje prison escapee. The Owo killings happened in June na. That was about a month before the Kuje prison break.
J. Rawlings, using the handle @elonchorch, wrote, “Because of their failure to protect lives and properties, the APC is desperately looking for what show off with. How do you say Idris Ojo that escaped from Kuje prison is one of the attackers of Owo. May the blood those killed be upon anyone spreading this falsehood.”
Many Nigerians are also demanding further explanations from the Army over the mix-up suspecting there could be some attempts at making some things up in the entire attacks saga.
