Nigerians have raised eyebrow over claim by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, that the Presidency has disbursed N190 billion to 5.5 million vulnerable people across the country as at November 2024.
Dare had, in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, disclosed the disbursement of the fund under the National Cash Transfer initiative.
As broken down in an infographics attached to the post, N127 million was disbursed under first tranche while an estimated total of N62 million were disbursed under the second and third tranche.
The development, according to the post, reflected Tinubu’s commitment to eradicating poverty, promoting economic inclusion, and delivering on the renewed hope agenda.
However, this had sparked reactions from Nigerian netizens who questioned the feasibility sustainability and impact of the scheme as well as how the disbursement was done.
“This is not sustainable. Instead, create business opportunities for the citizens” @Fadima Ibrahim wrote.
“Because you need a rocket scientist to inform you that CASH transfer is a scam? If not, show the IMPACT and OUTCOME of this CASH transfer. Are the outcomes MEASURABLE and TANGIBLE? When you are done deceiving yourselves, let us know. CASH & RICE. Zero ingenuity.”@TimedFrank commented.
“Who are the households? Database for crosscheck, please. When @MBuhari did this with @yemiosibajo, questions have been asked on the beneficiaries. A minister also lost her job in a link to social transfers. Pupils on holiday were fed by government. Act 1 Scene 2 appears to loadi.”@Innocent Azih
“In numbers, N190b was shared to 5.5m households. On the average of 6 person per household, that’s about 33m Nigerians. That represents about 18% of Nigerians. How was this distributed? I believe some people are benefiting from this, yet I wish to know… Is the distribution done by bank transfer or literal cash sharing? Can we have some evidence of some of these 5.5m homes? Transparency and accountability would help…” @NwadijeAki
“Let’s do a life survey coverage with international bodies, reps from all major political parties & civil societies by into the streets, if we can get 100 persons that can prove that they benefited from this fake cash disbursement, then u win. U guys are only deceiving ourselves.” @IdamEni
