Human Rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has expressed concern over Nigerian activist, Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, following his visitation to Benue State.
The activist had yesterday arrived at Yelewata town in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State where over 100 people were massacred by suspected armed herdsmen during the weekend.
As seen in a post shared on his handle, the activist toured some of the houses attacked by the herdsmen capturing disturbing scenes of children and adults burnt to ashes in their rooms.
VeryDarkMan would later be seen in a separate video joining protesters on the street.
Reacting to the activist’s visitation to the area, Adeyanju in a post on his X handle on Monday hailed VeryDarkMan for his bavery.
He however expressed concern over his safety while advising him to thread with caution as Nigerians will move on if he dies with some even accusing him of clout chasing.
“I was so worried for VDM going to Benue, especially the spot of the massacre. Couldn’t rest until he was back safe. Nigerians don’t really give a damn about you. If anything happens to you, they will move on the next minute and say they didn’t ask you to die for them. They’ll say you were doing it for clout but they care so much about politicians.
“I can’t do the things VDM is doing. That era of unnecessary risk is over in my life but I sincerely appreciate him.” Adeyanju wrote.
NPO Reported that the weekend attack on Yelewata town had again sparked public outrage and attracted international attention.
Catholic Pontiff, Pope Leo, in an address on Sunday expressed his thoughts for the victims of the incident who according to him were mostly internally displaced people hosted by a local Catholic church in the town.
Nigerian music legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, also expressed his frustration with the incessant attacks which he described as ridiculous and annoying.
