Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has claimed that Nigeria’s democracy has completely collapsed under the President Bola Tinubu administration.
Obi made the claim during a panel discussion at the 60th birthday colloquium held in honour of former Imo state governor, Emeka Ihedioha.
The former Anambra state governor, in his address at the event held on Monday at Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Intercontinental Hotel, stressed that nothing works in the country again.
Obi maintained that Nigeria’s democratic structure which foundation he claimed was laid under the administration of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in 1999, has been knocked down.
“If you look at where we are today, it is like yesterday the 1999, some people came and took it a decade and some people were trying to raise it first floor. And some people came and knock everything down.
“That is the situation where we are now. Everything has been knocked down. Nothing works and I’m somebody who can say this exemplarily.” he said.
Recalling his time as Anambra state governor during the Obasanjo-led administration, Obi claimed he never paid any judge for his declaration as the state governor by the court.
“When Obasanjo and Atiku were in government, I did not pay the one Naira. I was sitting in my house, and the court declared me winner. It can’t happen in Nigeria today.” Obi said.
