The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has slammed the Nigeria’s ruling class who he claimed to be highly educated by behaves like illiterates.
Giving a practical example, Sanusi said that a randomly selected 109 Nigerians will produce same result as the current members of the National Assembly.
He expressed his displeasure with the praise-singing of public office holders by the members of the National Assembly.
While labelling Nigeria a classless society, the former Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Governor, in a statement made during a panel discussion at an event oner Wednesday questioned why lawmakers often resort to praise-singing rather than challenging the authority.
“Nigeria is a classless society. If you take the people, you called leaders- go to the Senate and House of Reps, you can go and pick 109 Nigerians at random without election.
“Put them in the Senate Chambers and the results may not be different from what you are getting now. Because the truth is, you have highly educated people in government, but they behave like illiterates.
“They forget their education behind. When you talk about praise singing, why would a man who is educated and accomplished be a praise singer to anyone?
Why would he not be able to face his boss and say Oga this is the truth? And why will a person in authority not have the confidence to listen to those around him and take criticism.” He said.
The Emir further slammed public office holders over accumulation of wealth rather than investing in the welfare of the people.
“By the time you become a governor, honestly it should be beyond looking for money. You have been given an opportunity to take care of the lives of millions of people, to educate children, to save lives, to provide healthcare, to build infrastructure. But what you are thinking of is a car, a house, are you that cheap?
“And you see them at the end of the day, they leave office. After a while they die and the children are fighting over the money.
“When they get the money, they go on drugs and everything is wasted.
“That money would have been better spent on educating millions of young people and saving lives. If we really want to fix this country, we need to have a class.
“The ruling class needs to have values- values beyond stomach infrastructure.” He wrote.
