The Organised labour have made good their promise to bring out Nigerians in their thousands on Wednesday for the commencement of a nationwide protests and strike over removal of petroleum subsidy.
In Abuja, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajeoro, has led protesters to the Unity Fountain to open the protests as more people join to make the protests a success.
“The protests have taken off in all parts of the federation,” he told journalists in Abuja
This was just as the NLC President said there is nothing on the part of the federal government to show any commitment to ameliorate the pains imposed by the removal of the subsidy.
“There is no commitment from the government,”Ajaero said adding that it is not by “using forces to stop people from protesting that you will stop a strike.”
He since the labour started negotiations with the government team, there is nothing to make them believe that the government mean well for the people.
As the protesters match in Abuja, workers and other members of the civil society have converged at the Ikeja meeting point.
Comrade Agnes Sessi, Chairman of the Lagos council of the NLC, was one of those leading the protests.
Also present were Comrade Biodun Aremu and leaders of the other civil society organisations.
The protesters spiced up the protests with processions which started from the under the bridge in Ikeja playing liberations songs from the Afrobeat legend, Fela.
