The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Foundation has flagged-off the nationwide training of 6,000 vulnerable farmers.
This was disclosed in a post shared on company’s official X handle on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the farmers were selected across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones
The initiative aimed towards food security rural empowerment commenced in Enugu state where 1000 smallholder farmers were drawn from the five states of the South-East geopolitical zone to benefit from the scheme.
It was officially opened by the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Patrick Ubru.
The post read; “In a strategic move towards food security and rural empowerment, NNPC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Limited, has flagged off a nationwide agricultural training programme designed to empower 6,000 vulnerable farmers across the six geopolitical zones with modern farming techniques.
“The inaugural ceremony, held in Enugu State, one of the training locations, saw 1,000 smallholder farmers drawn from the five states of the South-East geopolitical zone benefiting from the scheme.
“The training was officially opened by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Hon. Patrick Ubru.”
