The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), has disclosed that no institution from the South-East has completed the verification for student loans.
This was disclosed via X following a tweet by one @Donaldsplendo, expressing his displeasure on not seeing funds allocated to South-East universities.
The tweet read;
“Not surprised to see SE being neglected once again. No funds were allocated to students in UNIZIK, FUTO, MOUAU, and even the University of Nigeria (UNN).
“I’m pretty sure a lot of students in those schools applied for the loan just like every other Nigerian scholar. One Nigeria una”
Reacting to the above tweet, it was disclosed that geopolitical zones not a factor in the disbursement process.
According to NELFUND, a verification list was sent to every institution eligible for disbursement in which payments have been made only to institutions that responded to the verification.
“Unfortunately, we have not yet received any response from the institutions in the South-East. We urge these institutions to complete the verification process so that their students can benefit from the scheme.” NELFUND said.
NPO reports that so far, funds has been disbursed to a total of 19 institutions with a total amount of N2, 946, 927,155 to 27, 667 students.
