The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the derailment of a Kaduna-bound train along the Kaduna-Abuja railway corridor.
NPO Reported that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving several passengers in panic.
One of the passengers had described the scene as chaotic, with people scrambling in panic to safety.
While the cause of the incident still remains unknown, the NRC, in a statement issued by its Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident.
Opeifa disclosed that the Kaduna bound AKTS train service derailed at about 11:09am at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations.
He added that emergency rescue and medical personnel have been mobilised to the scene with victims transported to nearby hospitals.
While the number of casualties was undisclosed, the NRC noted that security operatives are already on ground to ensure all passengers are moved back to Abuja safely.
The statement read; “NRC confirms a train derailment involving its Kaduna bound AKTS train service at about 11.09 at KM 49 between Kubwa station and Asham station.
“Emergency rescue, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals have already been mobilised.
“Full compliment of security already on ground as effort is ongoing to move all passengers on train back to Abuja safely. Kindly bear with us at this moment.”{
