An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has been locked up in Ekiti over alleged assault on musician, Yinka Ayefele.
NPO Reports learnt Thursday morning that the official of the corps, whose identity has not been made known, was initially locked up on the orders of the commandant but was released on Wednesday.
It was gathered that the matter, which is currently being reviewed at the office of the Commandant General of the corps, Ahmed Audi, is to be tabled at the management meeting towards having a directive to the state commandant on the matter.
Giving more details of what transpired, Ayefele, while speaking with the NPO Reports on Thursday via telephone, explained that he was the one who ordered his driver to slow down to give money to an official of Amotekun at the gate of the entrance to the event venue when having given out money to the usual morteley of other security officials, touts, and others.
“In fairness to the NSCDC guys, they parked their van somewhere and they did not even come to me. As soon we approached the gate of the venue and I saw the Amotekun operatives at the gate, I slowed down and wound down the glass to give some money to the guys to appreciate them.
“That was when this NSCDC guy came and he dipped his hand inside my car to collect the money I was holding apparently before it could reach the person for which it was meant.”
That was Ayefele’s narrative. But it was also gathered from a source that the NSCDC official punched the singer in response to his (Ayefele’s) punch to prevent him from taking the money forcefully.
A source at the corps who did not want to be named yet said this was the account related by the official after he had been summoned by the Commandant.
Ayefele stated that after it was discovered that the official had hit him, his driver parked and made attempt to accost leading to the NSCDC official cocking his riffle and threatening to shoot anyone who dared to move near him.
He said he ordered his aide to leave them but that they should follow their van until they made a stop at an office of the Road Safety Corps along the way.
According to Ayefele, colleagues of the official who noticed that his vehicle had been trailing them demanded to know why he was trailing them. But once they stopped, the guy got down and was running away.
“His colleagues did not know what exactly he had done. They just assumed that he came to me for nothing. I told them to ask him why he was running away.
“Anyway, after a report, their commandant came to plead with me. And that was why I felt I should let the matter go,” he said
It was learnt that the headquarters of the NSCDC in Abuja might direct the Commandant to submit a report on the matter latest by the end of work today (Thursday.)
