The Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has ordered for a fresh Objective Structured Clinical Examinations(OSCE) over alleged irregularities.
The first examination had been held last year but was in November last year but was discovered to be full of misconduct.
In a letter signed by the General secretary who also doubles as Registrar of the union, Dr. Faruq Umar Abubakar stated that the decision was reached at the emergency meeting held between 16th-17th of February.
He urged all the affected students to register for another exam between 14th-25th of March,2022.
Part of the letter reads,
“The Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria at it’s Emergency Meeting held between 16th-17th February,2022 has approved the release of the withheld results of the affected institutions involved in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) score irregularities during the last November 2021 Professional Examination for General/Post Basic Nursing”.
“The Board established from the report that of the investigation of the conduct of OSCE examination that all the candidates with withheld OSCE results were found to have been involved in the compromise and misconduct during the examination”
The board therefore directed that:
a. “The OSCE results for all the affected institutions should CANCELLED”
b. “The results of the students established to be directly involved in the compromise and circulation of OSCE questions should be withheld until further investigation is concluded”.
c. “Council’s Standing Committee on Examination should conduct further investigation on the matter”.
d. “Staff and Students alleged to be directly involved in the misconduct during the OSCE examination should be referred to relevant security agencies for investigation and prosecution”.
“In line with the Board’s directives,all OSCE results of the affected institutions for November 2021 Professional Examination for General/Post Basic Nursing is hereby Cancelled. Please note that the cancelled OSCE results count as an ‘attempt’ for the candidates”.
“The Council’s Examination Portal for May,2022 Professional Examination for General/Post Basic Nursing will be opened for eligible candidates from 14th-25th March,2022. All students affected by the decision as well as other eligible candidates are advised to register within this period. Please note that all registration processes must be completed within this period”.
“Please bring the Content of this circular to knowledge of all concerned”.
