Insists Impeachment must Follow Due Process

Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has denied filing lawsuit against the legislative arm.
NPO reported that Obasa in a suit filed against the Assembly and the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, protested the legality of his removal, insisting that due process was not followed.
Obasa’s legal team, led by Afolabi Fashanu, had in the motion dated 12 February 2025, made a point argument over the impeachment of the embattled lawmaker.
They argued that the removal process, which was executed while Obasa was out of the country and when the assembly was in recess, was unlawful.
Addressing newsmen after his dramatic invasion of the Assembly on Thursday, Obasa dismissed dragging the legislative body to court.
As against the ongoing tension that has emerged since his return, the ousted Speaker held that the House as well as the ruling party the All Progressive Congress (APC) remains one.
“I don’t have anything like that in court. Our party is one. We are all brothers and sisters. It is a family party.” he said.
Meanwhile, Obasa maintained that he is never remove, adding that impeachment is undemocratic and unconstitutional.
He, however, admitted that he is not being impeached, providing it follows due process.
“I’ve said it repeatedly; I’ve never been removed. There is nothing like impeachment. I don’t know what you are saying. Impeachment or removal is not democratic and constitutional. But to achieve that, you must folllow due process.
“I’m not against being removed. If I do that, then I’m not democratic.
“But all we saying is let us go through the normal process and achieve that. I don’t have anything against anybody.” Obasa said.
He also dispelled having grudges with fellow lawmakers, stressing that they have always been on good terms.
“All my colleagues they have always been my brother. They have always been loyal.
“They have been dedicated with strong commitment about the people of Lagos, and we will continue to do that together. For me, I have no reservation, nothing against anybody and no intention of victimization.” He said.
