Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has urged Olubadan designate, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, to avoid clash of tradition with political authority.
Obasanjo gave the advice while congratulating the former Oyo governor ahead of his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
As contained in a congratulatory letter dated July 14, 2025, but made public on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the ex-President described the Olubadan as an exalted and position which requires humility, patience and tolerance amongst others.
Obasanjo however urged the new Olubadan to distinguish between traditional and political authority in order to succeed.
“It is an exalted and responsible position to be traditional ruler of all Ibadan people.
“It requires humility, patience, divine wisdom, tolerance, and advice from wide and varied quarters to succeed. Traditional rulership does not compete or conflict with political rulership.
“I wish you all the best and the grace, guidance, and direction of Almighty God.” He wrote.
Meanwhile, the ex-President described the coronation as a mere formality, affirming that Ladoja has already been elevated to the revered throne.
The coronation of Ladoja is slated to hold on Friday with several dignitaries led by President Bola Tinubu set to storm Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, where the event will be held.
