Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has admitted errors in the constitution of the Presidential Campaign Council of the party.
Obi, on Friday, said he is compelled to make the statement over what is clearly some “omissions” and “errors” in the list.
Of particular attention, which had generated controversies among youths, was the inclusion of a former Army spokesman, General John Enenche, who was accused of denying that there were killings at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020 in the wake of the protests against police brutality.
The retired army chief had claimed that the photos being shown as evidence of killings at the Lekki Tollgate were photoshopped.
Enenche had appeared before a panel investigating the allegations against the Army and other security personnel over alleged killings of protesters at the tollgate.
“I have received several calls of concerns following the release of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council list,” Obi said via his twitter handle on Friday.
Assuring that for the sake of accountability, a new list is being worked upon, the LP candidate said the new list would be released soon.
“Admittedly, there were some omissions and erroneous entries in the list, hence the concerns expressed,” he said
He added that this was why in response, the Labour Party Chairman, in the presence of members of the NWC, addressed the issues during a press conference.
He added, “In keeping with our commitment to accountability, responsiveness and transparency, an updated list will be issued in due course. I plead for patience.”
The party had released a list of 1,234 member-strong which instantly created uproar over the inclusion of some members believed to be unfit for the campaign.
