The Obidient Movement’s Director of Mobilisation, Morris Monye, has resigned from his role over neglect of the pressure group’s plans, particularly by the 2023 Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Monye, who had been one of the movement’s major driving forces, tendered in resignation letter on Thursday with a copy of it posted on his official X handle.
As contained in the letter, the former leader of the movement further cited poor funding and the abysmal performance of the Labour Party at last week’s Anambra gubernatorial election as paprt of the reasons for his resignation.
“Almost a year down the line, most of our short-term, medium-term and long-term plans have not been met; I will not be part of optics without work,
“The poor showing at the Anambra election has also made my position untenable” he stated.
Monye further lamented that his commitment to the role had come at a personal cost, alleging constant intimidation.
He disclosed that he had personally spent about N 40 million on activities related to the movement, including travel, media campaigns, mobilisation drives, and local support structures.
“I and my businesses have also been harassed non-stop by sympathisers and instruments of this government; it is a role that puts a target on your back,
“I have spent approximately N40 million of personal fund (My own money) on donating for Obidients event, mobilisation travels across the country, funding committees, evangelising about the movement with calls for mobilisation on radio airways in the rural areas, support local structures on ground” He said.
Despite his efforts, Monye noted that Obi never once call to know about the activities of the movement or make any financial commitment to it.
“No money was given to the Directorate of Mobilisation; there is no bank account even for the directorate,” he said. “In fact, Mr Peter Obi has never asked what we are doing in mobilisation — no communication, nothing.” He said.
Money, in his advice, urged the Obidient Movement to engage professional political and operations consultants to strengthen its grassroots structures and improve future media campaigns.
