Former Minister of Solid Minerals, Oby Ezekwesili, has accused the Nigerian Senate of abuse of power over the sexual harrasment scandal involving Kogi lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Ezekwesili, in a post on her X handle on Thursday, slammed Senate for desecrating the National Assembly.
She held that Nigerians had only demanded for investigation into the sexual harrasment allegations but the Red Chamber resorted to abuse of power, which she claimed to know will happen.
“Investigate the accusation of sexual harassment is all that sensible Nigerians have collectively asked the @NGRSenate to do, but no, they have decided to choose the ignoble path of vicious abuse of power and desecration of our Public Institution @nassnigeria .
“The long-necessary Battle for the Soul of Nigeria will definitely happen.
“It is not a matter of whether it will.
“It is a matter of When.” She said.
Recall that the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Prosecution, had summoned Natasha following her outburst and accusation of the Senate President over seat arrangement last month.
While she failed to appear before the committee after the plenary session yesterday, the committee deliberated on her case.
On resumption of plenary on Thursday, the Committee tendered it recommendations before the Senate which include six months suspension of the Kogi lawmaker and stoppage of her salary amongst others.
NPO earlier reported that the Senate approved Natasha’s suspension.
