The Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects over alleged ritual killings in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
Operatives attached to the Command had reportedly nabbed the suspects discovery of human body parts concealed in two Cherubim and Seraphim Church parishes.
The three suspects identified as Sunday Akintobi (36), Oladimeji Olaniran (40), and Isaiah Tijani (38), were arrested following the raid on the churches on Tuesday.
According to report, the buildings, located in Kobape town and along Abiola Way, were allegedly used as fronts to disguise the suspected ritualists gruesome operations and evade detection.
The suspects were however bursted by the operatives attached to the Ogun Command’s Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed that human remains were found in the possession of the suspects.
She added that forensic investigations and further interrogations are underway.
“They were found in possession of suspected human remains, including bones and other dismembered body parts. The arrest was a result of diligent intelligence and swift response,
“Based on their confessions, we have launched a comprehensive probe to trace the origin of the remains and determine the full scope of their criminal network,” the Police spokesperson stated.
Also reacting was the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, who described the discovery as “deeply disturbing and inhuman,” vowing that the command will pursue justice to the letter.
“This discovery is not only shocking but a wake-up call for community vigilance. We will leave no stone unturned. This investigation will be thorough and far-reaching,” he assured.
Ogunlowo, however, warned residents against shielding criminals while urging them to assist with information that could help bring more perpetrators to justice.
He also expressed concern over the rising trend in graveyard thefts and ritual killings in the state.
“Do not shield criminals. Report any suspicious activity. The community must be actively involved in ensuring our safety,
“We urge families to take proactive steps in securing gravesites to curb grave robbing. This is an unfortunate trend that must be stopped,
“We are appealing to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activities around these so-called church buildings or elsewhere to come forward. Your information could be vital,” Odutola said.
