There is tension in Jakande Estate area of Isolo, Lagos State after angry residents decided to burn over 20 commercial motorcycles.
The action of the residents was said to be precipitated after a rider who was on a wrong way, allegedly hit a pedestrian who died instantly.
It was not known if the residents were able to apprehend the rider.
Subsequently, residents gathered and accosted as many Okadas as they could grab and assembled them for burning.
This created apprehensions in the neighbourhood as other commercial motorcycle operators took to their heels to avoid being caught.
The incident has come amidst row over banning of okada in six local government areas of Lagos.
The operators, often accused of breaking traffic rules, are yet to be banned in other parts of the state.
The area where the incident happened on Thursday is not one of those already banned.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman of the police in Lagos, said men of the command arrived at the scene to prevent further taking of law into the hands by the residents.
