The Super Eagles of Nigeria has released its final 28-man list with Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, Weder Brem striker, Victor Boniface, and his Wolves counterpart, Tolu Arokodare, dropped from the squad set to represent the country at the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As contained in a post shared on the national team’s X handle on Thursday, the trio were amongst the crop of players dropped from the initial 54-man list released by the team’s coach, Eric Chelle.
Also dropped from the list despite his impressive performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers campaign was Benjamin Fredrick.
The removal of the central-back had sparked mixed reactions from fans.
However, the final list saw the return of former 1st choice goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho who is set to back up current 1st choice, Stanley Nwabali, alongside debutant, Amas Obasogie.
The Super Eagles defense which also experienced noticeable absence of regular invitee like Ola Aina has been streamlined to eight players.
Leading the defense line is Calvin Bassey who will be flanked with the likes of Zaidu Sanusi, Ajayi Oluwasemilogo, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Chidozie Awaziem, Igoh Ogbu, Ryan Alebiosu, and Bruno Onyemaechi.
The midfield bolsters with the likes Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Others include Muhammed Usman, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Raphael Onyedika, and Tochukwu Nnadi.
The attacking line, spearheaded by Victor Osimehn, include the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Akor Adams, Cyril Dessers, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon.
Also returning to boost the Nigerian side’s attacking depth is Paul Onuachu as well as the invitation of Salim Fago.
