Amid ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), an old Facebook post by the factional National Chairman of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe, endorsing the takeover of the party by the coalition of opposition leaders has resurfaced online.
This is coming under the heels of the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) decision to de-recognise the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
Recall that Nafiu had filed a suit challenging the leadership of the party by Mark and other factional members of his caretaker committee as he declared himself the legitimate National Chairman of the ADC.
In compliance with court’s order, INEC, on Wednesday, resolved to withdraw it recognition of the leadership claim by both factions.
The Mark-led faction would in reaction to the development held a World Press Conference where the former Senate President alleged that Nafiu had prior to the takeover resigned from his role as the then Deputy National Chairman.
While Nafiu had since denied resigning from his former position, a Facebook post of him endorsing the takeover of the party the coalition resurfaced on Friday.
The factional ADC had, in the post dated 3rd July 2025 and reshared on X on Friday by former Kogi lawmaker, Dino Melaye, welcomed the coaliton adpotion of the ADC and the new leadership of Mark and Aregbsola.
“Yesterday, we welcomed the coalition members formally adopted our great party’ the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as platform for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections with Distinguished Senator David Mark serving as the National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola serving as the National Secretary” He wrote in the post.
Nafiu expressed his commitment to sacrifice and work alongside the new ADC leadership.
“I as a deputy national chiarman of the party, our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.
“This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.” The post read further.
Reacting in a caption to the plsy, Melaye accused Nafiu of lacking integrity.
“This is what Nafiu Gombe posted on his social media handle on 3rd of July 2025. Internet doesn’t forget. Integrity is a scarce commodity.” The ex-Kogi lawmaker wrote.
